APPRAISAL TRANSCRIPT
GUEST:
My husband inherited it from his aunt. That's all I know.
APPRAISER:
One of the basic things is the shape. It came from the Ming dynasty.
GUEST:
Oh good, okay.
APPRAISER:
And this repeating pattern of flowers and vines is typical of what you get from the early Ming period. But this actually is not early Ming, and I can tell that because one of the clues is the color of the blue. This particular color indicates this was made in the 18th century in China. If you turn it upside-down and look at the underside, we can see the color of the clay that confirms that it was made in Jingdezhen, which is the big porcelain making center in China. So those are all the different factors that go into figuring out a value. And I would say at auction today, this would realize somewhere between $2,500 and $4,000.
GUEST:
Oh, that's amazing! How wonderful!
