APPRAISAL TRANSCRIPT
GUEST:
I've owned it for 26 years. A friend of mine was starting an interior design business and she brought this back from a flea market in Portugal.
APPRAISER:
Okay.
GUEST:
And so I purchased it from her because I just loved it.
APPRAISER:
This was made for a wedding celebration.
GUEST:
Oh, my goodness!
APPRAISER:
And why do you have all these boys holding up these little banners? They are all celebrating the marriage that is going to take place, and they are representing all these generations of children that are going to result from the marriage. Everything happy, celebratory, an ecstatic outpouring of joy.
GUEST:
That's what this is about.
APPRAISER:
And this was hanging on the wall of that room where the celebration took place, around 1880. And it was made in China. And what did you pay for it?
GUEST:
I paid her $500 for it.
APPRAISER:
That was a darn good buy. You know what it's worth?
GUEST:
I have no idea.
APPRAISER:
What if I said $4,000 to $6,000 at auction?
GUEST:
Oh, I would be very impressed!
